LANDSCAPES
These paintings are done in oil on canvas. Painting in the tradition of Plein-air is an
exhilarating experience, especially in the southwest New Mexico landscape. Mary Ann's
goal is to capture some essence of the elements: the wind moving through the trees, the
warmth of the sun on the red earth, the coolness of the shadows. Mary Ann loves the narrative so if she
can tell a story at the same time, she feels especially satisfied. The piñon
and juniper trees and the sagebrush and chamisa bushes all seem to become entities in the paintings, as if they are traveling up the
slopes on their way somewhere.
