FOLKART & MYTHOLOGICAL

Mary Ann's love of the narrative and storytelling has led her to create her own version of contemporary folkart with red outlined forms and borders depicting parts of the story in relationship to the center artwork. In her "Red Willow Series" red willows rise from the bottom of the paintings and intertwine with the main artwork. After starting this series she learned that "Taos" is "Red Willow" in Tiwa (the language of the Taos Pueblo) which is very apt for these works about her journeys in the southwest, especially Taos.

These paintings are done in acrylic on gessoed watercolor paper. She also uses this medium to record lifes experiences and dreams. Mary Ann believes you can create your own mythology to empower yourself. The result of these images is very striking and powerful. These pictures are framed in an ebony stained poplar wood with handcrafted tin in which some design elements on the tin are included in the pictures.
