STORYTELLING
Years ago I realized that if I took my art (or experiences) one step further and wrote about them, another understanding of the art or experience would come to me.
This was the beginning of my storytelling. I write stories and illustrate them but I would not be deemed a writer.
I remember being around a campfire and people telling stories, wishing I could remember a story and tell it. Along the way I have realized we all
have stories and we all have stories to tell. I began writing my stories down to understand what they were truly about, to look at my choice of words and choice
of symbols and eventually polished the stories. Now I do have stories to tell around the campfire. My own stories I can remember.
I love it when my paintings seem to tell a story. It makes the painting alive, it takes on another dimension. Of course the stories I know or see are not the same that the viewer sees.
I paint a picture and then write about the painting, perhaps what inspired that painting or the story behind the picture. Sometimes the painting comes first,
sometimes the story comes first. The important thing is to honor the process.
